7 miles of mud, water and pain for Weston Hospicecare
A team of 15 staff from North Somerset company, Boulters of Banwell, are preparing themselves for a 7 mile ‘Commando Challenge’ to help raise money for Weston Hospicecare.
The Challenge takes place on Sunday October 16th at the Royal Marines training ground near Exmouth in Devon and includes highlights such as the 2-metre long pipe completely submerged under water, the Crocodile Pit full of orange mud and Peter’s Pool when entrants have to swim/run across a 40-metre muddy pool. The Commando Challenge has run for the last 16 years and attracts over 4000 people in teams from across the UK and even international entries, including a team of ex-All Blacks rugby players from New Zealand.
The Boulters Battalion team have to complete a 2-mile road run before they start the 3-mile assault course. Once the assault course is completed as a team, they finish the challenge with a further 2-mile run. “When we entered our team we decided we wanted to raise money for our local hospice,” explained team Captain Steve Hale. “It seemed like a good idea when we initially entered, but running 7 miles through mud and water now seems a bit more of a challenge.” “I’d like to say the team was now taking part in some hard training for the event, but although some of us have to get muddy when mending our clients machinery I think this will be tougher,” he concluded. The team is hoping to raise at least £1,000 for the local charity through sponsorship. Any groups interested in entering the event should contact Weston Hospicecare on 01934 423922.
